Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2016
Christians from all different denominations set a week from Jan. 18-25 every year to pray for Christian unity. The 2016 theme for this week has been selected: "Called to Proclaim the Mighty Acts for the Lord" (cf. 1 Peter 2: 9). The theme is the result of a hard work from Lutheran Church, Morning Christian Programme, Chemin Neuf Community, Religious of the Pro Sanctitate Movement, and the Catholic Youth Center of the Archdiocese of Riga. The final text were finalized during a meeting of the International Committee of the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Church and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. Click here for the text.
The theme focuses on the relationship between Baptism and Proclamation. All baptized are called to proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord. It is the invitation of St. Peter, the first Pope in his first letter to the faithful. When one baptized, one becomes a member of God's people, God's chosen race. Baptism opens to everyone a new journey of faith and unite all Christians throughout the ages. God gives human race the salvation through Jesus Christ. This is the mighty acts of God Who raises Jesus from the dead which opened new life to all who die with Him in Baptism.
Saint Anne invites all to join the Prayer Service on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at 2:00pm in the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church - 446 Hamilton Street, Southbridge, MA 01550.
